An Introduction

Constituted on 25th January 1950, a day before Indian become a Republic, the Election Commission of India is a permanent independent Constitutional body vested with the power and responsibility for superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of electoral rolls for, and conduct of, all elections to Parliament and to Legislatures of the States and the Union Territories and of elections to the offices of President and Vice-President held under the constitution

Voter slips

This is the first time that the Election Commission has introduced Voter slips to use at the time of poll and directed that the Voter Slips distribution in respect of all ACs should be over by 15th February 2003.
The District wise packages of Election Commission of India’s Voter Slips were received by Chief Electoral Officer, through Indian Air lines and forwarded to District Election Officers with the Distribution Registers/Instructions without any waste of time. This was introduced by the Commission as a matter of abundant cautions permitting the odd electors who have not obtained their photo ID Card to vote at the General Election 2003.

Conduct of Election to the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly-2003

The Ninth Nagaland Legislative Assembly continued upto 22nd March, 2003 and stand dissolved on 23rd March, 2003 on expiration of it duration under the provisions of the clause (i) of Article 172 of the Constitution of India. For which, the Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for conduct of General Election in the State of Nagaland – vide Press Note No. ECI/PN/2/2003/MCPS dated 11/1/03, followed by :-
1. The proceeding of the Commission No. 464/NL-LA/2003 dated 22/1/03,
2. The Notification of the Governor of Nagaland No. ELE/CDT-5/2002-03 fixing the dates and hours for conduct of election, 2003.

Electoral Roll

Every citizen of India, who attained the age of 18 years or more on 1st January of the year in which electoral roll has been prepared or revised every year, and who has not enrolled their name in the earlier Electoral roll should get themselves enroll their name in the office of Electoral Registration Officer in all the districts. It is the responsibility of every citizen not less than 18 years of age to get their name enroll in the electoral rolls in only one constituency.

For enrollment, correction of names, Transposition of Name within a constituency and deletion of Name of those who died, no more a resident of the constituency by shifting to other town or transfer to other places, the following form will be required to be fill in and submit the same to the Electoral Registration Officer.

1. Form 6 – Application for inclusion of Name in electoral roll.
2. Form 7 – Application for objection to inclusion of name in electoral roll.
3. Form 8 – Application for objection to particulars entered in electoral roll.
4. Form 8A – Application for transposition of entry in electoral roll.
